My family has been coming here since they first opened. The menu changes quite often but the food is always good. There are some old favorites that I miss dearly like the old shrimp chips, but they're always dependable on dishes that I keep coming back to like longsilog, shumai, siopao, and wonton soup.
It can get really busy around mealtime rushes, especially if a giant family walks in and orders ahead of you, but this is Mira Mesa and that is the norm around here - families travel in packs and I love it! You'll place your order, get a buzz-key to alert you when it's ready, and there is plenty of seating inside. Go ahead and walk around Seafood City while you're waiting! There are always more treats in there too! -

What I really like here are their halo-halo and siopao. However, the food is not even as comparable as the ones they serve in the Philippines. I was excited to order their signature tofu, expecting they will give me the sauce I loved and some onions to go with it, but they only gave me a packet of soy sauce. Their lauriat was okay.
Having Chowking in the Philippines for years is probably the reason why I expected more. I was disappointed. -

TLDR; Phillippine-based fast food chain, famous for their fried chicken. Unfortunately, I think their fried chicken is bland and the lumpia isn't really worth it.
I've had this in the Philippines and I remember liking it more than Jolibee. So I guess I went in here with too high of an expectation.
As a meal, it's pretty cheap...you can't argue with that. That's why I decided to pay a little more to get the extra side since I wasn't paying that much already.
I'll give them this. Their fried chicken is crispy. And that's always a good thing for fried chicken. But I wish there was more flavor. I felt like it was a little too bland. The lumpia also wasn't that great. Definitely could've done without it.
At least here in the States, I'll go somewhere else for fried chicken. -

Chowking is a Philippine-based franchise food chain, which was acquired by the Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) in 2011. The JFC now owns Chowking establishments prominently positioned in the U.S.
As dubbed, the king of the chow is scattered all throughout the SoCal area. Chowking primarily sells noodle soups, dim sum and rice bowls with toppings.
I have been at this particular location in Mira Mesa a few times from years ago and once again visited this past month after grocery shopping at their adjoined neighbor, Seafood City Supermarket.
Chowking and among other food chains dispersed nearby are situated in the Mesa Shopping Center, at which it can be very difficult to find parking any time during the week and more so on the weekends.
At the time of the visit, I ordered their 1-entrée Lauriat Rice Meal on the menu that came with a plate of fried rice, 2-pcs. of fried chicken (leg & small thigh) and pancit canton (egg noodles). The meal was decent, considering it was a quick stop and the food was ready in no time at all. The food, in general, was okay and the cashier could use a little smile; although it could be one of those long rough days.
